Lost Sierra Food Project

Founded in 2019 by two women passionate about providing Plumas County residents with fresh, locally grown food, Lost Sierra Food Project is a grassroots organization rooted in Quincy. It has a mission to provide access to food, farm education, and workforce development opportunities to its community, while also collaborating with others to strengthen the local food system by supporting market development, small producers, and farm-to-school initiatives.

Lost Sierra Food Project runs Rugged Roots Farm, a 2.5-acre farm that grows over 70 varieties of fruits and vegetables, as well as over 50 varieties of flowers, directly from seed. The organization's intention for the farm is to create a safe, therapeutic community space that fosters connection to the environment, to one another, and to learning about how food is grown. The farm also hosts the majority of the organization's programs. Its farm season starts up in March and concludes at the end of October, with produce becoming available in June.

The organization's programs include:

  • Farm to School with PUSD, PCS, and other local children’s programs

  • Paid Summer High School Internships

  • An Affordable Produce Program serving families and free produce deliveries to local Food Banks

  • The EcoFarm Certificate with Feather River College

  • Community workshops with a focus on local culture and agriculture

  • The Quincy Farmers Market Revival

  • Regional Food System Planning for farmer support
